Home Remedies For Asthma



Asthma is a chronic lung disease that causes difficulty in breathing. Asthma can be either acute or chronic. This occurs when there is an obstruction flowing of air in the lungs. The larger airways (bronchi) branches into smaller airways (bronchioles) that are obstructed due to tightening of muscles, swelling, or irritation in the airways and accumulation of mucous resulting in asthma. Most common symptoms associated with asthma are shortness of breath, chest tightness, coughing, and wheezing.

  • Allergies to air pollution and dust mites
  • Respiratory infections
  • hyperirritability
  • Sulfites in food and other drugs.
  • Certain medications

GINGER



Try this out – Cut 1 inch of ginger into small pieces and add this to a pot of boiling water and drink it.


Take equal quantities of ginger juice, pomegranate juice, and honey and mix well and drink 1 tbsp of this mixture 2 or 3 times a day.

Mix 1 teaspoon of ground ginger in 1 ½ cups of water and take 1 tablespoon of this mixture before going to bed.

You can also try eating raw ginger mixed with salt.

Prepare a fenugreek decoction by boiling 1 tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in a cup of water mixing 1 teaspoon each of ginger juice and honey to it. Consume this solution every day in the morning and evening. This helps in detoxifying your lungs.

MUSTARD OIL



Add little camphor to some mustard oil and massage gently into the chest and upper back. Try doing this several times a day till the symptoms subside.


FIGS


Soak 3 dried figs in a cup of water overnight and eat them in the morning and drink the fig water on an empty stomach. Doing this regularly for 2-3 months will help the nutrients enter your bloodstream and give relief from the symptoms of asthma.

GARLIC



Boil 10 to 15 cloves of garlic in a half cup of milk and consume this once a day. You can also make a tea by adding 3-4 garlic cloves and letting it steel for 5 minutes and then consume.


COFFEE



The caffeine in coffee helps control asthma attacks as this acts as a bronchodilator. Hot coffee will help clear the airways to and breathe easier. The stronger the coffee, the better the result will be. Try not to drink more than 3 cups in a day and do not use it as a regular treatment for asthma.


EUCALYPTUS OIL



Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a cloth and keep it by your head while sleeping by slowly breathing in the aroma. You can also try adding 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil to a pot of boiling water and take the steam. Try taking deep breaths for better and faster results.

 
HONEY



Mix 1 teaspoon of honey to a glass of hot water and drink it slowly for about 3 times a day. You can also try this; swallow 1 teaspoon of honey with one-half teaspoon of cinnamon powder before going to bed, this will help remove any phlegm from your throat allowing you to sleep better. Mix 1 tsp honey with half tsp cinnamon powder and consume just before sleeping.

 
ONIONS



Try eating raw onions to clear your air passage ways. If you do not like the raw onions, try eating cooked onions instead.
 
LEMON



Take half a lemon and squeeze in a glass of water and add sugar according to your taste. Drinking this regularly helps reduce asthma attacks.
