What Is Liposuction

Liposuction or lipectomy

Do you want to lose some inches from your body ? Find here the procedure and side effects of Lipo:

This procedure is also called as lipo, lipectomy, fat modeling, or liposculpture. In this surgery, fat is removed surgically from various parts of the body usually the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, neck, and backs of the arms. Liposuction will also be used for male breast reduction. It is very important that the patient is told that the liposuction is not a weight loss method. When there is too much of fat, the surgeon cannot remove it all in one sitting. How much fat can be removed depends on the method that is used as well as certain other aspects relating to the patient.  Normally the most that can be taken out from is about 5 kg. If too much fat is removed, there is a great risk of other complications to the patient.

Liposuction Procedure

The fat will be removed using a hollow metal tube called cannula that is passed through the fatty tissue. A pump is also attached to generate a vacuum, so that the fat is sucked out (that is why it is also called suction assisted liposuction). A motor is attached that makes the cannula to vibrate. An ultrasonic generator is also used to produce sound waves which break the fat cells and are then removed. Prior to removal, the fat cells will also be broken down with laser.

Liposuction Side Effects

Though complications are uncommon, they can occur including infections, change in sensation, damage to the underling structures, the accumulation of blood under the skin, and allergic reactions. It is crucial that the patient is aware of the risks and complications. Patients who smoke are advised to give up the habit well in advance and not to resume it for few weeks at least after the procedure, as smoking can undermine recovery.  Liposuction will not reduce the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, or high BP.
