Iui (intrauterine Insemination)

Intrauterine Insemination or Artificial Insemination

When a woman does not become pregnant with drugs and surgical procedure, she may need to choose the more complex procedures like intrauterine insemination (IUI), IVF etc.

Intrauterine Insemination or IUI Procedure

IUI Is the placement of a sperm into a woman's womb using a catheter (a long thin tube) through the vagina. This procedure can be carried out with a sperm from her husband or donor. IUI can be used in combination with fertility drugs that stimulate ovulation. In some women, this combination increases the chances of pregnancy.

The success rate of IUI purely depends on the causes of the couple's infertility.

When the inseminations (IUI) are done monthly with fresh sperm or frozen sperm, the success rate can be as high as 20% per cycle depending on other factor like whether or not fertility medications are used, the age of the woman, and the other infertility factors.

IUI is more effective in treating:
  • Women who have defects or scarring of the cervix
  • Men who have low sperms count
  • Men who have sperm with low mobility
  • Men who cannot erect
  • Men who have retrograde ejaculation, is a condition that the sperms are ejaculated into the bladder instead of out of the penis
