Appendicitis Home Remedies

Appendicitis is also called as epityphlitis is a condition of inflamed appendix that is painful and filled with pus is a surgical emergency which requires surgery to remove the appendix. The appendix is a small finger shaped 3 ½  inch long tube that extends from the large intestine that is on the right side of the abdomen. No one is sure of what the function of the appendix is, but knows that it has no essential purpose. If left untreated, the inflammation can lead to dangerous and even life threatening.  Appendicitis can affect anyone, but it occurs more in people between the ages of 10 to 30 years.

Appendicitis Causes
The most common causes of appendicitis is due to the blockage often by stool, a foreign body, or cancer that occur somewhere along the appendix.

Appendicitis Symptoms
  1. The very first sign is a sharp and dull pain near the upper abdomen or navel and that becomes sharp as it moves down to the lower right abdomen.
  2. Loss of appetite
  3. Nausea and vomiting occurs soon after abdominal pain begins
  4. Abdominal swelling associated with fever of 99-102 degrees Fh.
  5. The inability to pass gas
  6. Painful urination
  7. Severe abdominal cramps
  8. Constipation or diarrhea associated with gas
If you have any of the above symptoms, please seek medical attention immediately as the timely diagnosis and treatment is very important. Do not drink, eat, or use any pain killers such as antacids, laxatives, or heating pads, which can further cause an inflamed appendix to rupture.

Appendicitis Home Remedies

Keep drinking plenty of fluids or water throughout the day.

Have ginseng tea twice a day. It helps in curing the pain and inflammation of the appendix.

Green gram is another effective remedy for treating appendicitis. Take 1 tablespoon of green gram soaked in water 3 times a day.

Drink equal quantity of lemon juice and honey to prevent indigestion during appendicitis.

Add 2 to 3 drops of mint essence in water and consume once in every 3 to 4 hours daily. 

Taking a high fiber diet full of green leafy vegetables and fruits may avoid the condition.

Drink a liter of buttermilk daily as this is very effective in preventing the bacterial growth in the appendix.

Mix 100ml each of cucumber and beetroot juices in 300ml of carrot juice and drink it twice in a day daily.

A decoction of basil leaves (tulasi) will help a lot if given to the appendicitis patient who suffers from fever.
